I realize that selecting a counselor and beginning the counseling process is not easy. Whether you’re dealing with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, or other concerns, I would be honored to work with you. I count it a great privilege to journey with each of my clients toward overall personal growth with God’s help. I have years of experience working with teenagers, adult individuals, couples, and families and thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to watch the Lord work in hearts and lives through Christian counseling to bring about healing and restoration.
My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My aim as your counselor is to be a sounding board for you and an asset for insight and intuitive contemplation. I will encourage you to set goals for yourself, then I will help facilitate that goal attainment. When you successfully achieve your goal, my hope is for you to feel that you were your own change agent and that I was simply there for support while incorporating your beliefs and faith in the process.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I conduct counseling sessions organically and encourage you to dictate the flow of the session. Even if a pressing issue was processed in a previous session, I will support your desire to process through the psychosocial stressor of the day or week. You can expect me to ask, “How can I support you today?” to help you understand that you are in control of the process. Only when circumstances require me to take a more directive lead will I influence the direction that a session should go.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
The greatest benefit of a distinctively Christian approach to counseling is being aware and able to share with families, youth, and individuals that some answers are better explained and understood from a moral purview that is personal and intimate. I know that the faith of every individual is wholly personal with specific insights that may only make sense to the individual. I do not believe in cookie cutter Christianity. Because of this, my faith informs my practice in that everyone who shares in the process of counseling is unique and while their story may be similar to those of others, it is not the same and therefore must not be treated as such, just as the Lord is with us.
Qualifications & Experience
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Marian College and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University in West Los Angeles, CA.
I have been providing counseling (spiritual, emotional, and mental health) for almost 21 years. The first eight years were as a youth leader and associate pastor at my local church. Since starting and completing my degree, I have spent the past 13 years in a more formal counseling role.
My Call to Christian Counseling
I was encouraged to pursue a career in counseling while working with youth in ministry at my church. As I was completing a Bachelor’s degree in business, I wasn’t completely fulfilled with the work I’d be doing and wanted to do something that would have a more personal impact on people. I was already working in ministry as a youth leader and found myself helping parents and young people alike through challenging seasons. This influenced me the most. I was also influenced by family members who worked in the mental health field. Knowing their journeys and the experiences they had gave me a strong sense of confidence that I could support individuals in the same way.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
I have been married to my lovely wife Yarnell for almost 21 years. We have two beautiful daughters. We enjoy spending time together traveling, watching movies, and eating. My family is my core ministry and they come second only to God. I am an avid golfer. I love the sport from watching to playing. I also enjoy baseball and football. Being from Indianapolis, I am a Colts fan, and I grew up loving the Chicago Cubs. My other interests surround church and outreach. I enjoy studying the Bible to teach and preach lessons. I also enjoy time on the mission field in West Africa.

Marriage & Couples Counseling
Couples searching for support in various stages of their relational development will engage in counseling with each other to build on the core foundation of their relationship. Each partner will learn their partner’s needs and expectations as well as learn how to work through challenges that could or do impede the peace and harmony of their relationship. Clients with mental health challenges ranging from anxiety disorders to mood disorders will participate in a structured counseling program that will help them develop coping skills and gain insight on their emotional challenges as they relate to a diagnosis. I will act as a support by regularly evaluating and developing plans of care that will help you maintain a consistent level of functioning in your daily life.
Grief & Loss Counseling
Grief and loss counseling will start with a structured process of support to allow you to feel supported but not pushed. Once you feel you have reached a particular space of acceptance, you will be invited to work on re-engaging in your life without the presence of your lost loved one. We will move at your pace and take as long as you need to work through the emotions that are intrinsic to loss and grief.

Testimonials
Geoffrey has been a wonderful therapist. I worked with Geoffrey for individual therapy and then transitioned to pre-martial counseling with my partner. The therapy sessions were transformative. I always left with a better understanding of myself and the world. Most importantly, I left the sessions with HOPE. I highly recommend working with Geoffrey.

I’ve had a few different therapists, but none of them have the breadth of knowledge and emotional range as Geoff at Christian Counseling. I’m also not religious, but I still find that this space can be helpful for anyone.

If it weren’t for the genuinely endearing, dedicated services of this man my relationship and family would have ended. We came to his office teetering over the edge and he patiently guided us into a steady, solid meadow of healthy communication. In fact, when my spouse and I work through conflict today, we high five one another and say “Geoff would be so proud of us.” I am so grateful to Geoffrey Sherrell for his care, commitment, and ministry in service. If you are unsure about trying out counseling, PLEASE allow him to work with you. You will not regret it. I’ve already referred him to several of my friends and family. He is wonderful.
